MALAGA Malaga lies right in the heart of the COSTA DEL SOL within ANDALUSIA, Spain´s southern most region. Málaga -birthplace of the great artist Pablo Picasso where a museum devoted to his work was recently opened in 2003 - is home to more than 500,000 inhabitants and ranks among Spain's most important cities and among Europe's leading business and leisure centres. Malaga owes it reputation as a leading international tourist destination to its numerous beaches, mild yet sun-drenched climate, a busy and reliable airport, a wide range of accommodation options and one of the world's most highly developed service industries. Besides ranking as a top notch destination for rest and relaxation, Malaga also boasts emerging urban, industrial and technology innovation centres which also make it appealing for business. MALAGA FESTIVAL-SPANISH CINEMA The MALAGA FESTIVAL-SPANISH CINEMA, with Malaga-born actor Antonio Banderas as honorary president, has taken place every spring since 1998. Organized by Malaga City Hall, together with a handful of private and public sponsors and partners, the Festival aims to further the distribution and promotion of Spanish feature films as well as documentaries that have either been produced or backed in Spain and Latin-America, or focus on Spanish or Latin-American themes. The Festival welcomes professionals across the board and works to promote commercial development. The 7th Edition held from the 23rd April to 1st May 2004, confirmed the Malaga Festival, the leading Spanish film festival in our country, as an essential meeting point for the film and audio-visual industry as a whole. Firmly supported by FAPAE, Federation of Spanish Producers Associations, official institutions (ICEX -Foreign Trade Institute-, ICAA -Film Institute- and EXTENDA - the Trade Promotion Agency of Andalusia- and the main television broadcasters (Antena 3, Canal + and Canal Sur), the Festival draws the attention of major dailies and national, regional and local television channels. 900 professionals, 600 journalists and 105,000 spectators attended the Festival. 8th EDITION (22nd to 30th April 2005) The following sections will be presented at the 8th edition of the festival:

MERCADOC is a specialized market which only presents Spanish, Portuguese or Latin-American documentary production, of any length, genre and theme as well as documentaries from any other country -especially European- as long as their themes are related to Spain, Latin-America, Portugal or the Hispanic community in the United States.
